University of Applied Arts Vienna Junge Helden-finstere Visionen: Dystopische Zukunftsperspektiven in der neueren Jugendliteratur am Beispiel der Buchserien Hunger Games von Suzanne Collins und Maze Runner von James Dashner Ziel dieser Arbeit war, Vorbilder des Genres Dystoian Young Adult Fiction zu untersuchen, anhand der Romanreihen Hunger games von Suzanne Collins und Maze Runner von James Dashner. Teil der Recherche und der Diskussion innerhalb der Arbeit ist der Einfluss der Dystopie auf Politik, Gesellschaft und Kultur. Darauf folgt ein Überblick der Genregattung und ihrer Überlappungen mit anderen sowie die Möglichkeiten und Funktionen der Erzählung und des Mythos. Weiters wird die Verbindung zwischen Literatur, Dystopie, Apokalypse und der "Lust am Untergang" untersucht. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the roots of contemporary Dystopian Young Adult Fiction, in reference to Suzanne Collin’s The Hunger Games series and James Dashner’s Maze Runner series. Initially, the etymology of “dystopia“ as well as its influences and effects upon politics, society, culture and literature will be researched and discussed. This is followed by an extensive overview regarding intersections and definitions of genres, during which special attention was given to the capacity and function of storytelling and myth. Furthermore, the themes of disaster, apocalypse and the pleasure in ruin (Lust am Untergang) were examined in relation to dystopian literature. In order to connect this dystopian theory with Dystopian Young Adult Literature, motives and structures of the genre, as well as the topoi created by these, were identified and analysed. de TEXT other Eyb, Sophia Magdalena VErgeiner, Renate
