o:33920 UNHEIGHTENED MOMENTS Ambiguität und filmische Langsamkeit in Kelly Reichardts Meek's Cutoff (2010) de Bei der vorliegenden Arbeit handelt es sich um eine Text- und Kontextanalyse des Spielfilms Meek’s Cutoff (USA, 2010) von Kelly Reichardt. Der Film wurde als Anti-Western rezipiert und zeigt die Reise einer Gruppe Siedler*innen, die im Jahr 1845 vom Osten Nordamerikas Richtung Oregon im Westen unterwegs ist. Die filmische Form positioniert Meek’s Cutoff im Kontext des slow cinema. Das zeitgenössische Phänomen der Entschleunigung wird zu Beginn dieser Arbeit mit einem Fokus auf filmische Formen der Langsamkeit verhandelt. Im Sinne einer Analyse filmsprachlicher Elemente widmet sich die Arbeit außerdem: der Repräsentation von Routine und Erschöpfung, der Hierarchisierung der Soundebenen, dem Umgang mit filmischer Landschaft und der Konzeption einzelner Figuren. Entlang der Beschreibung ausgesuchter Szenen wird das feministische Potenzial von Meek’s Cutoff herausgearbeitet und in Bezug auf die indigene Figur widmet sich die Arbeit den Prozessen stereotyper Zuschreibungen. Ausgehend von einer Textanalyse werden Verbindungen zu filmtheoretischen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Kontexten hergestellt. The following paper is a text and context analysis of the feature film Meek’s Cutoff (USA, 2010) by Kelly Reichardt. The film was received as an Anti-Western and shows the journey of a group of settlers. The story takes place in 1845 and the settlers are travelling from North eastern America and are heading towards Oregon in the West. The cinematic form positions Meek’s Cutoff in the context of slow cinema. The contemporary phenomenon of deceleration is negotiated at the beginning of the paper with a focus on cinematic slowness. In terms of an analysis of cinematic language, the paper also deals with the representation of labour and exhaustion, the hierarchy of sounds, the depiction of landscape and an analysis of individual film characters. The feminist potential of Meek’s Cutoff has been discussed, based on selected scenes. In relation to the cinematic character of an indigenous man, the paper deals with stereotyping and othering.
