</ns1:description>
<ns1:description language="en">The present work deals with the question of how children and adolescents in the Turkish diaspora in Austria receive and perceive the masculine constructions of the Mafia series Çukur. The work is divided into a theoretical and an empirical part. The Turkish TV sector has seen tremendous growth in the past ten years. Meanwhile, the TV dramas can be found in South America, the Balkans and in various Asian countries. The main drivers of the expansion were political developments. At the same time, the production conditions in the Turkish TV sector are discussed. Politicians have introduced or tightened different methods to influence the work of TV producers if, for example, content does not correspond to the values of the Turkish regulatory authority. The criticism of the
constructions of masculinity is based on the concepts of male research by Robert W. Connell, “the hegemonic
masculinity” and Pierre Bourdieu “the male habit”. In order to establish a connection to Turkey, these concepts were supplemented with the approaches of the two Turkish authors Arus Yumul and Deniz Kandiyoti, with a focus on gender relations in Muslim countries. The empirical part analyzes eight interviews with children and adolescents about the Çukur series, which were conducted between June and July 2019. Most of the subjects were interviewed in youth centers and others in the park. Aspects such as scope of action, equipment and figures are characterized in detail so that readers can better understand the content of the series. For the analysis I refer to essential concepts and terms of cultural studies such as semiotics, and the coding / decoding model by Stuart Hall. The investigation in the context of the present work has shown that children and adolescents identify certain aspects such as e.g. understanding the idea of family of the Çukur series as a symbolic resource. </ns1:description>
