<ns1:description language="en">Performative practices reflect current societal and political issues and refer to identity debates like gender- and ethnicitydiscourses. The ephemeral character of performance art creates its special status within the fine arts. This special status refers to the production, the practice as well as the reception. The foundation of performance practices reaches back to Dada. The roots of performance art as a genre within the fine arts are to find at the Black Mountain Collage in the US of the 1950s. Performative practices reach an early peak in the Fluxus movement in the 1960s, and the societal and political shiftings of the time. Central for the development of performance art where collectives of artists, collaborations and thus the formulation and mutual exchange of ideas and concepts. John Cage, Annie und Joseph Albers, Merce Cunningham, Robert Rosenberg, Charles Olsen, Buckminster Fuller, Walter Gropius, and many more met at the Black Mountain Collage, that closed already in 1956. "Theater Piece #1", today known as the first "happening" was presented at the BMC as a collective performance of John Cage, Bob Rosenberg, Merce Cunningham and Charles Olsen. After the shut down of the BMC many artists moved to New York City. The lose network and numberous transdisciplinary collaborations of artists formed the Fluxus. Fluxus, also called Anti-Art based on a manifest written by George Maciunas, opened the doors for the reconsideration of art itself and for any kind of collaboration, mulitmedia contribution and/or objects. Performance as artistic tool and medium became a precursor for following developments in contemporary art.</ns1:description>
