Objekte, Licht, Ton, Farben, Oberflächen, Worte, Bilder – alle diese Elemente bilden in einem Raum und mit einem Raum eine vielschichtige Erzählung, die als Atmosphäre an unsere Sinne und unsere leibliche Wahrnehmung appelliert. Darüber hinaus sind wir in diesem Raum selbst anwesend und prägen die Atmosphäre mit unserer Präsenz, unseren Bewegungen und Handlungen im Wesentlichen mit. Als BesucherInnen können wir diese Atmosphäre wahrnehmen. Wir können die Inhalte nicht nur lesen, sondern vielmehr unmittelbar spüren. Wissen kann nur durch die Verschmelzung des Rationalen mit dem Emotionalen produziert werden. Dies geschieht im Moment der Raumerfahrung. Sie beeinflusst, wie Ausstellungsinhalte von BesucherInnen aufgenommen werden und welches Wissen produziert wird. Die Entstehung und Bedeutung der Raumerfahrung für die Wissensproduktion im Ausstellungsraum wird in folgender Thesis untersucht und an einem Praxisbeispiel überprüft. Gerade in der Gegenwartsgesellschaft ist die individuelle und kollektive Produktion von Wissen zentraler als je zu vor. Damit ändern sich die gesellschaftlichen Anforderungen an die Ausstellungsräume und ihre Institutionen grundsätzlich. Unlike reading a book, we don’t read information in an exhibition in a linear way from page one to 100. Objects, light, sound, colours, surfaces, words, images – all these elements in and together with a room form a multifaceted narrative and atmosphere that appeal to our senses and physical perception. Moreover, we are present in this space and substantially influence the atmosphere with our presence, our movement and actions. As visitors we can experience this atmosphere. We can not only read the content but rather also instantaneously feel it. Knowledge can only be produced through the conflation of the rational and the emotional. This happens during the moment of spatial awareness. It influences how exhibition content is absorbed by the visitor and what knowledge is produced. The emergence and relevance of spatial experience for the production of knowledge in exhibition spaces will be examined and verified by case studies in the following thesis. This theme has become more central than ever, especially in today’s society where so much focus is placed on individual and collective production of knowledge. With this the needs of the public regarding exhibition spaces and their institutions have fundamentally changed.
