<lom:langstring xml:lang="en">Biofilms are groups of microorganisms that are involved in many natural phenomena, ranging from anti-aging to global warming. For this reason, they are the focus of numerous scientific research studies that takes place between the lab and the wild.
This work reflects on one of such studies; a scientific experiment that took place in Vienna, looking at biofilm samples from a streambed in the woods of Lunz am See, Lower Austria. The samples were processed in the lab and analysed by software to show a fairly normal species’ composition for such biofilms. The exception was the appearance of one unexpected species in the results: an elephant.
The video-installation focuses on scientific research and analyses that place between the lab and the wild, a place where the biggest animal on Earth can fit into such a tiny environment surrounded by microbes.
