The fully automated movement creates the story of a boy operating the first valve steam engine. In a touch of genius he invents the missing link that transforms the semi-automatic steam engine to a fully-automatic machine. The story is taken from Adam Smith's „Wealth of Nations“. „The Visible Hand“ contrasts with Adam Smith's metaphor of an invisible hand of the market which is said to channel the self interest of market participants towards socially beneficial ends. It is contrasted by the system of commons that comes to fore again with the digital revolution and creative commons. „Die sichtbare Hand“ ist eine Installation, die in ihrem zentralen Objekt Figuren und Gegenstände zeigt, die Schatten auf eine schwebende Leinwand werfen. In der automatisierten Bewegung entsteht eine Erzählung, die von einem Jungen berichtet, der aus genialer Faulheit das fehlende Teil erfindet, das die damals übliche halbautomatische Dampfmaschine in eine vollautomatische Dampfmaschine verwandelt. Diese Geschichte eines sogenannten Ventiljungen ist Adam Smith's „Wohlstand der Nationen“ entlehnt. Sie verweist auf die von ihm beschriebene „unsichtbare Hand des Marktes“, die Wohlstand für alle schafft – als unbewusster Nebeneffekt eines Systems, in dem jeder Mensch nur auf das eigene Wohl fixiert ist.
