phaidra.bibliothek.uni-ak.ac.at o:40375 Parametric Urbanism: Re-Processing The thesis-project is an critical reprocessing of the design method of parametric urbanism with the goal of improving on two of the most persistent attributes in urban planning. Namely the problem of the top-down approach and the inflexibility to change over time. Both of which are most evident in parametric urban proposals. Parametric design as a style, as defined by Patrik Schumacher, is the symbiosis of order and complexity. Whereas order with a lack of complexity leads to repetition, and complexity with a lack of order leads to chaos. The sum of these two types of parameters leads to an overdetermined result. The introduction of even more parameters of those kinds will advance the system but constantly increase the degree of determinism. Sophistication is not liberation. The only type of parameter that is capable of liberating the system of the dogma of over-determinism is the contradicting, the anti-parameter. The claim this thesis makes is that parametric urban design needs to become the synthesis of order, complexity and contradiction. Die Diplomarbeit ist eine konstruktiv-kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der städtebaulichen Entwurfsmethode Parametrischer Urbanismus. Das Ziel ist die Revision bezüglich zweier der hartnäckigsten Eigenschaften des Städtebaus, nämlich dem top-down-Problem, sowie der zeitlichen Inflexibilität. Parametrisches Entwerfen als Stil wurde von Patrik Schumacher als die Symbiose von Ordnung und Komplexität definiert. Worin Parameter dieser beiden Kategorien zwar eine hohe Bandbreite an Korrelations- und Differenzierungsmöglichkeiten bieten, jedoch die Summe dieser Parameter oft zu einer Überbestimmtheit führt. Die einzige Art von Parameter, die zur Lockerung des Systems führen kann ist der widersprüchliche, bzw- der Anti-Parameter.
