<dc:description xml:lang="eng">My Mother "Salome"

As the daughter of the opera singer Hildegard Behrens, I have been familiar with the music and story of "Salome" by Richard Strauss/Oscar Wilde since my early childhood. My diploma is a synthesis of my memories, impressions and my own view of Salome.
My series consists of three groups of paintings:
In the "mirror-paintings" ("Lipstick on the Mirror", "Salome Doll", and "In the Dressing-room") I wanted to free Salome from being an object and awaken compassion for her; the process of identification is symbolized by the reflections.
In the "dance-paintings" I tried to show the loneliness of the "child-wife" Salome.
In the "kiss-paintings" ("The Meditation", "Salome and the White Peacocks", and "The Cistern"), a change in Salome's awareness becomes visible: the image of the pomegranate is gradually replaced by the insurmountable reality.</dc:description>
