<lom:langstring xml:lang="de">Zum photographischen / medialen Bild der amerikanischen Stadt (des 20. Jahrhunderts) in den Arbeiten von Walker Evans (1903-1975), Dan Graham (geb. 1942) und Sarah Morris (geb. 1967).

In der Oszillation zwischen einer Theorieebene und dem tatsächlich Wahrgenommenen und Erfahrbaren versucht die Arbeit eine assoziative Annäherung an das Themenspektrum: Stadt, Raum, Photographie, Dokumentation, Medien, Wahrnehmung, Öffentlichkeit(en), Manipulation.

Mittels einer Strategie der radikalen und präzisen Selektivität (Intuition - Integration - Interpretation) werden drei Werke und deren Veröffentlichungssituationen gegenübergestellt: Walker Evans - American Photographs, Ausstellung im Museum of Modern Art, New York 1938 bzw. das Begleitbuch dieser Ausstellung, Dan Graham - Homes for America; Zeitschriftenartikel in Arts Magazine 1966-1967 und Sarah Morris - MIDTOWN 16mm/DVD 1998 bzw. AM/PM 16mm/DVD 1999, Projektionen am Gebäude der Zürich Kosmos Versicherung in 1020 Wien vom November 2000 bis Januar 2001.

Spätestens seit der Pop-Art der 60er Jahre, die die Betriebssysteme der Kunst und der Medien annäherte, beanspruchen deren Protagonisten geschickt und gekonnt ihren Marktanteil an der Produktion - Promotion - und Konsumtion der Kunst.

Wie die drei untersuchten Werke und deren spezifische Veröffentlichungsstrategien aufzeigen, ermöglicht erst ein kritisches Selbstverständnis und profunde Kenntnis dieser Betriebs- und Vermittlungssysteme, in den differenzierten Marktsituationen zwischen dem mediatisierten Kommerz und einem elitären Kulturbewusstsein zu agieren.</lom:langstring>
