To find an answer to these questions I created a campaign in the public space, including posters, over 5000 Flyers, video clips, a web-page and additional visits at TV-shows; to introduce an ideal, fictional artist to the public. 
Moreover I invited the society to take part in an election to decide if this is art or not and - as a conclusion - if I should get my master degree in Fine Arts or not.

<lom:langstring xml:lang="de">Was ist Kunst? Wer ist KünstlerIn? Und wer entscheidet darüber?

Ist es eine Jury von ProfessorInnen, ist es der Kunstmarkt, ist jeder Mensch selbst dazu befugt darüber zu entscheiden, ob er KünstlerIn ist oder urteilt die gesamte Gesellschaft darüber?

Das sind Fragen, mit denen ich mich anlässlich meines künstlerischen Diploms an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien konfrontiert sah.
Meine daraus resultierende Arbeit sollte mit Mitteln der Werbung und gängigen Methoden des Reality-TVs einen kritischen Blick auf den Kunstmarkt werfen. 
Die Situation junger, unbekannter KünstlerInnen sollte ironisch hinterfragt werden.

Eine Werbekampagne, bestehend aus Plakaten, Flyern, einer eigenen webpage (www.weristkuenstlerin.com), Videotrailern auf Infoscreen, Okto-TV bzw. Puls-TV und Fernsehauftritten, erweckte einerseits eine fiktive Kunstgestalt - namens Tina Schmidt - zum Leben und war andererseits auch überspitzte Darstellung gängiger Vermarktungsstrategien junger KünstlerInnen.
Grundlage für diese - von mir verkörperten - Figur und all ihrer Aktivitäten waren gesetzliche Definitionen eines/r KünstlerIns in Österreich, sowie von mehr als 30 Galerien angegebene Kriterien, die eine(n) KünstlerIn für sie vermarktenswert machen.

Die Öffentlichkeit sollte durch die bereits genannten Werbemitteln aufgefordert werden, an einem Voting teilzunehmen, in dem es zu entscheiden galt, ob Tina Schmidt Künstlerin ist oder nicht. 
Abgestimmt wurde bis 21. Juni 2006 übers Internet oder am Diplomtag, den 22. Juni, in einem dafür eingerichteten Wahllokal im Museum für angewandte Kunst Wien. 

Bei der Stimmenauszählung konnte folgendes Ergebnis eruiert werden: 
339 Stimmen für und 137 Stimmen gegen Tina Schmidt.
