University of Applied Arts Vienna Landscape Sekem Sinai Das Projekt LANDSCAPE SEKEM SINAI untersucht Probleme und Möglichkeiten der Entwicklung von unberührtem Neuland. Gegenstand der Untersuchung ist ein 800 ha großes Grundstück der ägyptischen Kulturinitiative SEKEM (Alternativer Nobelpreis 2003). Getragen von einem landwirtschaftlichen Großbetrieb und den sozialen und kulturellen Programmen SEKEMS soll in einer Dünenlandschaft im Nordwesten der Halbinsel Sinai ein Lebensraum für MitarbeiterInnen und Menschen der Umgebung geschaffen werden. Durch das Projekt LANDSCAPE SEKEM SINAI sollen tragfähige Grundlagen zur Entwicklung des Geländes angeboten werden. Zwischen Unternehmensmodell und Naturraum vermittelnd, soll aufgezeigt werden, wie eine von äolischen Prozessen geprägte Umwelt eine Kulturlandschaft inspiriert, die mittels räumlicher Komposition und topografischer Modellierung in ihr natürliches Umfeld integriert wird, und zugleich fundamentaler Bestandteil der Vision SEKEMS ist. LANDSCAPE SEKEM SINAI explores challenges and possibilities of land reclamation in a desert environment. The object of investigation is a 800 ha property located in the northwest of the peninsula Sinai, owned by the Egyptian cultural initiative SEKEM (Alternative Nobelprize 2003). The initiatives long-term goal is an organic agricultural holding and living space accommodating a variety of social and cultural programs for employees and people of the surrounding area. Mediating between a business-model and a natural dune scenery, LANDSCAPE SEKEM SINAI provides a sustainable foundation for the development of the site. The project demonstrates how aeolian processes and dynamics can inspire a cultural landscape that is integrated into the natural surroundings and at the same time reflects SEKEMS vision of a sustainable human development.
