an ihrer ursprünglichen Bedeutung. Während sie
bis ins 20. Jahrhundert die Institution ist, die
systematisch gesammeltes Wissen zur Verfügung
stellt, übernehmen heute überwiegend elektronische
Informationssammlungen diese Aufgabe. Plattformen,
wie Google-Library, die den Bücherbestand
aller US-Universitäts-Bibliotheken digitalisieren,
konkurrieren mit ihren ausgeklügelten Such-
Algorithmen mit herkömmlichen Büchereien. Neue
Ansätze, die Bibliothek mit öffentlichem Raum
zu hybridisieren, ignorieren die Printmedien,
deren Archivierung ein Dilemma darstellt, ohne
eine Antwort auf die wachsende Vorherrschaft der
digitalen Sammlungen zu finden. Mit dem Projekt
wird postuliert, dass die Bibliothek wieder den
Status einer intellektuellen und kulturellen
Ikone erhalten muss. Ein dialektischer Ansatz
bedient sich der Masse des Archivs, um die öffentlichen
Funktionen gezielt zu inszenieren.
Knotenpunkte werden ein Auditorium und Workshops
