phaidra.bibliothek.uni-ak.ac.at o:44614 Rebirth of the Bathhouse Das Projekt ‘Rebirth of the Bathhouse’ wurde von einem offiziell ausgeschriebenen Wettbewerb inspiriert und befasst sich mit der Renovierung und Nutzung eines alten, verlassenen Badehauses in Liepaja, Lettland. Die Geschichte, Kultur, Politik und wirtschaftliche Lage des Landes, der Stadt und der Standort wurden hierfür im Detail recherchiert. Nicht nur vorhandene Literatur und das Internet wurden für die Untersuchung beraten, sondern auch in Form von Interviews und Arbeiten vor Ort wurde recherchiert. Hieraus ergab sich, dass die Bewohner der Stadt Liepaja weder mit der Ausschreibung, noch mit sonstigen Plänen für das Badehaus und den darum liegenden Park vertraut waren. Dies gab den Anstoß mit Partizipationsmodellen zu experimentieren, und ihre theoretischen Werte und praktischen Einschränkungen zu erforschen. Letzten Endes bedient sich das Projekt der künstlerischen Methode der Überidentifikation und startet das Gerücht, dass im Park in Liepaja ein Datenspeicher- Zentrum gebaut wird. Damit war beabsichtigt, bei den Bewohnern der Stadt Interesse zu produzieren, zum Handeln anzuregen und einen Dialog zu provozieren. Auf diese Weise nimmt das Projekt eine kritische Haltung gegenüber der Wettbewerb-Kultur ein und experimentiert mit Kunst als Medium für urbane Innovation. The project ‚Rebirth of the Bathhouse’ is inspired by an official competition call and is concerned with the reuse of an old bathhouse in Liepaja, Latvia. A great deal of research was done into the history, culture, politics and economic situation of the country, the city and the site. Apart from consulting existing literature and the Internet for this, the research also took the form of fieldwork and interviews on site. From this it became evident that the citizens were unaware of any plans for change to the bathhouse and the surrounding seaside park. This gave the incentive to experiment with models of participation, and analyse its theoretical ideals and practical limits. Ultimately it uses the artistic method of over-identification by starting the rumour that a data storage centre is going to be built in the seaside park. In doing so it aims at producing concern and provoking discussion amongst the citizens of Liepaja.
