Examination of Helene Funke's painting technique. Additional theme: Helene Funke's painting technique. The work focuses on the German painter Helene Funke, who was working in Germany, France and Austria during 1869 and 1957. Her canvas painting "In the Loge" of the year 1907 from the Lentos Museum of Modern Art Linz forms the starting point of this thesis. For this painting a concept for conservation and restoration was developed and conservation and restoration treatments were carried out. To do this it was necessary to go deeper into the structure of the painting, which leads to the examination of the painting materials and painting techniques. For comparison there was chosen a second small painting from the same period, entitled "Mädchen mit Zöpfen" from the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Archives and Collection/Oskar-Kokoschka-Centre. Also for this latter painting an examination of the painting techniques was undertaken. Regarding the working method of Helene Funke it was possible to find similarities between both paintings, which are described in this diploma thesis.
