container Diploma Milena Georgieva Diplomstudium Dieses Projekt ist eine interdisziplinäre Auseinandersetzung mit der Struktur urbaner Räume. Es verbindet aktuelle Robotertechnologie mit der Idee von einem flexiblen städtischen Raum und deckt das Potential für eine neue Auseinandersetzung mit der Landschaft im urbanen Kontext. Ziel des Projekts ist es, den Nutzern unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten zu bieten, sich im öffentlichen Raum zu bewegen und zu interagieren. Die pragmatische städtische Infrastruktur produziert Restflächen in der Form von grünen Verkehrsinseln, die kaum ein ästhetisches Erlebnis anbieten. Diese Restgrünflächen sind isoliert, vernachlässigt oder im Gegenteil übergestaltet. Sie repräsentieren einen hohen Prozentsatz des städtischen Grünraum und weisen auf ein stagniertes System hin, das zweckmäßige Grünflächen generiert. URBAN FLOwRA ist der Entwurf für ein urbanes Experiment, in dem die existierende lineare Verkehrsstruktur von einem öffentlichen Platz in Wien radikal in ein neues interaktives Model transformiert wird. Die existierenden Restflächen auf dem Platz sind in mobile Grünflächen umgewandelt, die sich autonom bewegen und mit den Fußgängern und dem Verkehr interagieren. Im Ergebnis entsteht ein dynamischer und sich ständig verändernder urbaner Raum, der die Nutzer in einer spielerischen Interaktion involviert. 2014 Sommersemester summer term 2014 Tony Heywood URBAN FLOwRA design for an urban experiment in Vienna This project is a cross disciplinary approach to re-thinking the structure of urban spaces. It links current robotics technology with the idea of flexible urban space, unveiling the potential for new ways to engage with landscape in the urban arena. Driving this project is the desire to give the public different opportunities to move and interact within a public space. The pragmatic city infrastructure produces “leftovers” in the form of traffic islands, linear strips of lawn which hardly offer an aesthetic stimulation. These often isolated and neglected or on the contrary - over-landscaped areas represent a high percentage of the city’s green space. They indicate a stagnated system that generates utilitarian greenswarding. URBAN FLOwRA is the design for an urban experiment in which the current linear traffic structure of a public square in Vienna is radically transformed into a new interactive model. The existing “leftovers” of the square are turned into mobile green spaces, the Flowra hybrids, which move autonomously and interact with the pedestrians and the traffic.
