<dc:description xml:lang="eng">The central motive of the work is a myth that originated in the sixteenth century during Ferdinand Magellan’s voyage to find a westward sea path to the “Spice Islands” (the Indonesian island archipelago of the Maluku Islands). Chronicled by Antonio Pigafetta, an account of a population of giants living in Patagonia found its way back to Europe which persisted for the next two and a half centuries.

The work wants to highlight the importance of myths in building narratives and meanings. Through various visual materials such as quotes, maps and objects, the artist wants to juxtapose and harmonize historical and contemporary accounts and give an insight into various visual representational methods and how they are transformed based upon the expectations, motives and desires of the culture they originate from.

The site-specific installation of Isidora Krstic represents her Master thesis project work and its contextualization within the environment of the Austrian Museum of Life and Folk Art forms part of the concept.</dc:description>
