Hoffmann, Tagebucheintrag vom 6.11.1809 Den Facettenreichtum Hoffmanns, seiner Frauen und Widersacher zeigen die übergroßen, surrealen Traum-Objekte, die in die Tristesse einer abgegriffenen, ehemals luxuriösen Kellerbar einbrechen. Es ist der Versuch, die jeweiligen Geschichten auf ihre Essenz herunter zu kochen und Hoffmanns innere Welt, genauso wie die Zeit der Entstehung und nicht zuletzt die Musik ernst zu nehmen und gleichzeitig mittels einer Jahrmarktsästhetik und den zugehörigen mechanischen Wiederholungen subtil zu unterwandern. Hoffmann, diary entry of 6.11.1809 The multifaceted wealth of Hoffmann, his love interests and adversaries is shown by the oversized, surreal dream objects, which break into the dreariness of a worn out, formerly luxurious cellar bar.
