<dc:title xml:lang="en">Find it! Good girl!: Sniffer dogs and dangerous odors</dc:title>

<dc:description xml:lang="en">Scientific research wants to use the outstanding ability of dogs to distinguish the most varied low-intensity odours. Thanks to their sensitive noses, (some?) dogs are able to tell people who suffer from cancer from those who do not. The animals’ sense of smell however poses a puzzle for the researchers: they don’t know what substance it is that the dogs sniff out. Opening the black box. Presenting the issue. The object of investigation in this (trans)disciplinary project is the interrelation between groups of people with heterogeneous interests in terms of their different views on science, technology and everyday (clinical) practice. The issue is how “dumb dog noses” turn into “smart noses” and what happens in the interaction between humans and dogs in the sense of a different kind of togetherness. Noses are active while they perceive / measure odours, but they do not act in isolation but in interplay with other actors.
