University of Applied Arts Vienna structural silence Eine ortsbezogene Auseinandersetzung mit struktureller Gewalt im universitären Kontext "Structural Silence is a site-specific soundinstallation and artistic exploration of structural power relation at universities. The sound installation consists of 87 Earphones, playing 87 individual screams in a loop. Those screams are recordings of students, teachers and alumni that experienced discrimination as a consequence of structural violence within the context of universities. The sound sculpture fills the atrium with a constant siren-like noise. When crossing the installation, the sound experience undergoes a spatial shift, allowing the visitor to perceive each scream individually. The installation aims to give space to those unheard voices and to a possible discourse about structures that reinforce given power relations. " "Structural Silence ist eine ortsbezogene Soundinstallation. Es handelt sich dabei um eine künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit strukturbedingten Machtverhältnissen an Universitäten. Bestehend aus skulpturalen Clustern 87 Kopfhörer bespielt die Klangskulptur in einer akustischen Inszenierung den Raum. Jeder Kopfhörer stellt eine individuelle Soundquelle dar, aus der ein Schrei im Loop zu hören ist. Dabei wurde nach Studierenden, Lehrenden und Alumni gesucht, die Erfahrung mit struktureller Gewalt und struktureller Diskriminierung im universitären Kontext machen mussten. Aus diesen Stimmen setzt sich die Klanginstallation zusammen. Structural Silence ist ein Versuch sowohl diesen Stimmen Raum zu geben als auch eine künstlerische Sprache zu finden, die eine mögliche Thematisierung gegebener Macht und Denkstrukturen an Universitäten darstellt.
