phaidra.bibliothek.uni-ak.ac.at o:55782 Urban Wildness Urban Wildness seeks to reframe spatial dynamics commonly perceived as negative (sprawl, suburbanization, shrinkage) as potentially advantageous to biodiversity, sustainability and livability. On community level, focus is placed on children’s perceptions and the use of creative tools to engage them with wildness in cities. Children today often grow up disconnected from nature due to their increasingly structured, restrictive and media-saturated daily routines. A lack of meaningful encounters with local biodiversity at an early age restricts the inner necessity to experience the outdoors and negatively shapes environmental attitudes later in life. Yet wild nature nearby home is an accessible resource to replenish deficits in knowledge and experience. A workshop for children was organized in Floridsdorf, Vienna in June 2016 in order to put this concept in practice. Urbane Wildnis sieht negativ konnotierte räumliche Dynamiken (Zersiedelung, Suburbanisierung und Schrumpfungsprozesse) als potentiell vorteilhaft für Biodiversität, Nachhaltigkeit und Lebensqualität an. Auf der Community-Ebene strebt das Projekt die Auseinandersetzung mit Stadtwildnis zu ermöglichen. Heutzutage wachsen Kinder zunehmend abgekoppelt von Natur auf. Der fehlende Kontakt zur Natur in jungen Jahren reduziert das Bedürfnis nach Freiluftaktivitäten und beeinflusst spätere Zugänge zu Umweltfragen negativ. Doch die Wildnis nebenan ist eine leicht zugängliche Ressource um Wissens- und Erfahrungsdefizite auszugleichen.
