<dc:description xml:lang="en">At present, the exploration of the relationship
between nature and culture is a key component
of "ecocriticism". A theoretical discourse
expanding in scope and influence, ecocriticism
is ultimately focused on the ways in which the
relationship between humans and the environment
is imagined and portrayed in various cultural
processes. This thesis explores ongoing debates
of the nature/culture nexus as relating to the
art practice of the contemporary painter
Walton Ford (b. 1960). The aim is to discern
the extent to which Walton Ford’s artistic
practice can be contextualized within an
ecocritical analysis, and thereby the larger
world; to be able to provide an extensive
commentary and analysis of not only what his
artistic practice communicates, but how.</dc:description>
