Mithin lässt sich in Anbetracht der «Krise als Form» (Draxler 2017) daran ein übergreifendes Problem konstatieren, welche die Kunst als Kritik ohnmächtig auftreten und somit gleichsam ihre Form als Kunst in Abgrenzung zu anderen Formen erodieren lässt. Ihr ungesicherter Zustand, speziell derjenige der Institutionskritik, lassen eine innere formalästhetische Krise der zeitgenössischen Kunst vermuten. Als Forschungsgegenstand wird der Deutsche Beitrag der 59. Venedig Biennale herangezogen. Hieraus werden die politischen und kritischen Implikationen untersucht und die Bedingungen ausgelegt, die der Institutionskritik gegenwärtig eine Daseinsberechtigung entgegentragen können. Der Fokus der Analyse liegt hierbei auf dem Begriff der Form und dem Gegenwärtigen. Zum einen werden aktuelle ästhetische Zugänge zur historischen Herausbildung des Formbegriffs untersucht und zum anderen geschichtsphilosophische Überlegungen zur Gegenwart getätigt. Beides deutet auf eine Problematik hin, wie Kritik als künstlerische Strategie (wieder-)aufgeführt werden kann und sich innerhalb oder entgegen einer hegemonialen Geschichtsschreibung positioniert. Die Arbeit unternimmt im Allgemeinen eine Studie der Kondition zeitgenössischer künstlerischer Strategien und spiegelt ihre unmittelbaren Kohärenzen von Form, Zeit und Krise wider. Against the background of current "catastrophic" narratives (Stakemeier 2017), the question of the relationship between art and crisis seems to become particularly explosive when the immanent ambivalence of contemporary art itself becomes an expression of the crisis. Thus, in view of the "crisis as form" (Draxler 2017), an overarching problem can be stated, which makes art as critique appear powerless and thus erodes its form as art in distinction to other forms. Its unsecured state, especially that of institutional critique, suggests an inner formal-aesthetic crisis of contemporary art. The German contribution to the 59th Venice Biennale is taken as the object of research. From this, the political and critical implications will be examined and the conditions interpreted that can give institutional critique a raison d'être at present. The focus of the analysis is on the concept of form and the contemporary. On the one hand, current aesthetic approaches to the historical formation of the concept of form are examined, and on the other hand, reflections on the contemporary are made in terms of the philosophy of history. Both point to a problematic of how critique can be (re)performed as an artistic strategy and positioned within or against a hegemonic historiography.
