<lom:langstring xml:lang="de">This master's thesis deals with the topic of homesickness. Homesickness is examined in connection with homelessness and exile. Both the physical exile and the associated alienation as well as the inner, the psychic, the exiled self are considered. The moment of alienation crystallizes as common to the physical as well as the inner exile, alienation of one's own integrity and security, alienation of home. The alienation and fragmentation of integrity is here translated, so to speak, into traumatic experience. On the basis of the atrocities that occur in this world, the question is raised to what extent societal traumatic events affect the homesickness experience of the individual, but also to what extent society itself is interwoven with homesickness through the violation of man by man. Exemplarily, the history of the Shoah and exile experiences in World War II are considered as well as today's politics with regard to refugees in Austria and the European Union. Homesickness is seen as a phenomenon, which as well as the human being itself, always has to be considered in interaction with social experience and political power relations. A frame of reference for this work is the trauma theory with special attention to the phenomenon of collective trauma as well as the postcolonial theory, which takes into account the unequal power relations in the past and today and should always be considered. This work is always accompanied by the poetry of exile and Shoah literature, which reflects the actual inconceivability of the subject and breaks with any linearity and order, as well as homelessness, exile, trauma - and finally homesickness itself.</lom:langstring>
