I aim for a cross-sectional exploration of its definition and its subversions, its cultural and individual significance, gendered societal expectations, cinematic (and pop-culture) portrayals, all the way to teenagers’ revolutionary potential.
\n\nIn my artistic and filmmaking practice, I have been investigating the pivotal moments in young people’s lives in which they realize they are living in a hierarchical society. As a female and feminist filmmaker, I have especially been exploring FLINTA characters, reflecting on the complexity of experiencing patriarchal and gendered societal structures for everyone*.

\n\nBesides theoretical research and documentation of my continuous work on the topic, the practical part of the thesis focuses on rebellion and clothing - especially dress codes, uniforms and various ways of resisting authorities through protest, playfulness, humor, expressions of rage and disobedience.

\n\nI work with the concept of Cheerful Vandalism, addressing today’s teenagers through social media platforms and my own video performances. My aim is to collect their experiences and expressions of resistance to authority-enforced dress codes, exploring playful — yet effective — forms (and perhaps new definitions) of resistance** and solidarity. The artistic research will culminate in a guerrilla installation on the premises of die Angewandte, thematizing the role of fiction and storytelling in the context of rebellion and art activism, particularly in dialogue with and about teenagers. \n\n\n* FLINTA is an acronym used in German-speaking contexts to refer to a diverse group of people affected by patriarchal structures.
