<lom:langstring xml:lang="en">The Simulacrum of Anthropomorphic Performance : An Interdisciplinary Enquiry into Digital Algorithms</lom:langstring>

</lom:title>

<lom:description>

<lom:description>

<lom:langstring xml:lang="en">My thesis explores the evolving relationship between humans and digital algorithms through the lens of speculative fiction and artistic practice. Framed by a post-apocalyptic narrative, this interdisciplinary project centers on Aegis, a biomechanical AI designed to support human survival in a dystopian future. By blending storytelling, sculpture, and interactive game design, the work critiques contemporary algorithmic reliance, questioning its implications for agency, empathy, and societal structures.

Drawing on theories from Harari, Dennett, and Herzfeld, the analysis contrasts organic and artificial intelligence, highlighting the anthropomorphization of technology and the mythologization of AI. The thesis further examines the risks of habitual dependence on algorithms, from eroded critical thinking to polarized social ecosystems, while contextualizing these issues within global asymmetries of power and resource exploitation.

Through Aegis—a sculptural installation paired with a satirical survival game—the project invites audiences to confront the absurdity and vulnerability inherent in ceding autonomy to machines. By situating present-day anxieties in a speculative future, the thesis underscores the urgency of reevaluating humanity’s symbiotic yet precarious relationship with technology.</lom:langstring>
