<dc:title xml:lang="eng">Ancestral Junctures : on the expansion of ancestral mythologies</dc:title>

<dc:description xml:lang="eng">This doctoral thesis investigates the phenomenon of ancestral-mythologies and their influence on both individual and collective constructions of subjectivity. Utilising an autoethnographic approach, the study examines the processes through which genealogical narratives are produced, maintained and expanded. It critically engages with dominant understandings of genealogy that primarily define ancestry through biological family lineages or nation-state affiliations.
Through a multilingual exploration in English, German, Turkish and Arabic, personal experiences, memories and cultural narratives are employed as sources of knowledge. The thesis deconstructs and decentralises established ancestral mythologies while acknowledging their significance in shaping identities and forms of belonging. Rather than rejecting these categories of genealogy, it proposes an expanded understanding of ancestry by introducing and exemplary genealogical frameworks. In particular, labour- and queer-ancestry are explored as exemplary mythologies that challenge conventional notions of ancestry.
The written component is structured as a dialogue in which theoretical perspectives, multilingual quotations and personal narratives interact with each other. Complementing the textual research, a multi-part artistic installation materialises the investigation through emblematic objects and moving images. Drawing on the historical logic of the Wunderkammer, the installation assembles heterogeneous artefacts into a rhizomatic network in which meaning emerges through proximity and relationality.
The thesis argues that genealogy should not be understood as a fixed ancestry waiting to be uncovered but as a cultural formation that can be critically examined, questioned and artistically reimagined.</dc:description>
