Mit der Arbeit Basma macht Antina Zlatkova die vererbte Stoffsammlung ihrer Großmutter zum Ausgangspunkt einer künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen von Herkunft, Kultur, Authentizität und Besitz. Die bunten Druckstoffe werden zu einer Allegorie historischer und familiärer Konstruktionen, denen sich die Künstlerin haptisch-kognitiv annähert und die sie neu interpretiert. What we really leave behind are myths. Our identities are informed less by concrete family, cultural, or historical legacies than by our attitude towards them – by the meanings we ascribe to them. And this attitude always has something to do with the present. How do we deal with the heritage of historical and ideological contradictions? In her work Basma Antina Zlatkova takes a collection of fabrics she inherited from her grandmother as a departure point for an artistic exploration of questions related to origin, culture, authenticity, and property.
