Analyse der Entwicklung von der physisch-realen Ausstellung mit beständigem Printkatalog zur virtuellen Online-Ausstellung mit prozessualem „Web-catalogue-document“

Abstract Durch Sammlungs- und Ausstellungskataloge werden temporäre Ausstellungen um einen bleibenden und Sammlungspräsentationen um einen archivarischen Aspekt ergänzt. Neben der Führungsfunktion (durch die Ausstellung) dieser Publikationsgattung ist somit die Dokumentationsfunktion nicht außer Acht zu lassen. Die in diesem Medium bildlich reproduzierten Exponate werden hiermit in einem neuen Kontext zuerst in analoger Form und später im Online-Format zusammengeführt und verändern in der Folge in- und außerhalb der Ausstellung das Rezeptionsverhalten. Die vorliegende Dissertation erörtert die Entwicklung des Online-Katalogs bzw. des „Web-catalogue-document“. Bei dieser speziellen Form des Online-Katalogs handelt es sich um eine im Web 2.0 eigenständige veröffentlichte Website, die die Funktionen und Inhalte eines gedruckten Katalogs teilweise aufnimmt und durch die Möglichkeiten des neuen Mediums sowohl inhaltlich als auch strukturell weiterführt. Den Ausgangspunkt bilden folgende Fragen: „Warum etabliert sich das ,Web-catalogue-documentʻ?“ und: „Ist dieses als Weiterentwicklung des gedruckten Katalogs zu sehen oder handelt es sich um eine eigenständige Gattung?“ Um die Antworten darauf aufzuspüren, werden konkrete Beispiele untersucht. Diese Arbeit soll weniger aus kunsthistorischer, sondern vielmehr aus kulturwissenschaftlicher und somit pluridisziplinärer Sicht den oben genannten Themenbereich analysieren und die Forschungsfragen beantworten. Die Wechselwirkungen zwischen der Katalogentwicklung, der Veränderung der realen Präsentationsformen sowie der Weiterentwicklung der Reproduktionstechniken und die damit einhergehenden unterschiedlichen Rezeptionsformen werden im vorliegenden Rahmen erörtert. Der Fokus auf den französisch- und deutschsprachigen Raum bei den Untersuchungen resultiert aus der zentralen Stellung dieser beiden kulturellen Regionen in Bezug zur historischen Entwicklung des Ausstellungs- und Museumswesens und der damit verbundenen Etablierung des Ausstellungs- bzw. Sammlungskatalogs. Da derzeit noch relativ wenig Literatur zu diesem Thema publiziert wurde, basiert die Dissertation „Über Repräsentationsformen von Kunstwerken und deren Kontext im Web 2.0“ auf der Weiterentwicklung der für Online-Museen gewonnenen Erkenntnisse und setzt diese in Bezug zur über Print-Kataloge erschienenen Literatur. Diese Erkenntnisse werden durch die Ergebnisse der Analyse von konkreten Beispielen gestützt. Durch die in der vorliegenden wissenschaftlichen Arbeit präsentierte Recherche zeigt sich, dass das „Web-catalogue-document“ in der Weiterführung der traditionellen gedruckten Kataloge ein eigenständiges Medium ist, das abgegrenzt von bisherigen Online-Angeboten unabhängig existiert und nicht zuletzt aufgrund des verstärkten Aufkommens an Aktualität gewinnt.

On representation forms of art works and its context on Web 2.0 Analysis on the development from physical-real exhibition with its consistent printed-catalogue to virtual online-exhibition with its processual „Web-catalogue-document“ Abstract The presentation of collections and temporary exhibitions is completed by the permanent and archival aspect of collection and exhibition-catalogues. In addition to the guiding function (throughout the exhibition) of the publication-genre catalogue, the documentary function is consequently a very important one. The various exhibits visually reproduced in these catalogues are hereby merged into a new context; first in analog catalogues and nowadays in different forms of online-catalogues. Consequently, they change the receptive behaviour of the public within and without the exhibition. The thesis “On representation forms of art works and its context on Web 2.0” discusses the development of the online-catalog respectively the “Web-catalogue-document”. Speaking about the “Web-catalogue-document”, it is question of an independent website published on Web 2.0, which partially accommodates the features and contents of a printed catalogue and exploits – in both content and structure – the possibilities of this new media. The starting point of this thesis is marked by the following questions: “Why has the ,Web-catalogue-document‘ established itself ?” and “Is it just seen as a variation of the printed catalogue or is it an independent genre ?” To track down the answers some concrete examples are examined. This work aims to analyse the above mentioned topics as well as to answer the research questions, less from an art historical perspective but rather from one of cultural studies and therefore a multi-disciplinary perspective. The interactions between the development of the catalogue, the change in the forms of museum-presentations and exhibitions as well as the further development of the reproductive technologies and the consequently associated different forms of reception are discussed in this framework. The focus on the French- and German-sspeaking countries in this examination is due to their central position in the historical development of museum technology and the related establishment of the exhibition- and collection-catalogue. Since there is still relatively little literature published yet on the topic of online-catalogues, the thesis is based on the published data on online-museums and places it in relation to the published literature on print-catalogues. The conclusions are corroborated by the analysis of concrete examples. Through the research work presented in the thesis “On representation forms of art works and its context on Web 2.0”, it is shown that the “Web-catalogue-document” is – in continuation with traditional catalogues – an autonomous medium and last but not least gaining in relevance due to its increased appearance.
