Author

Description (deu)
Description (eng)
On our metronomic, oscillating movements through the interspaces of our urban habitat, networked mobile devices mediate a seemingly immediate access to our emotional memories. The piece "Random Access Memories" is about the manipulation of our real time perception and the re-/construction of acoustic and visual aesthetic experiences in everyday life. The piece is designed as constellation of multiple elements - an application for Android Smartphones, Sound Recordings, Music, Visualisations, C-Prints, ephemeral artifacts and a 35 page booklet with an essay and illustrations. The elements are configured within two main parts: "Memochrome” and “Sound Track Logs" "Memochrome" is a application for Android smartphones. Unlike other camera applications, it generates highly abstracted, four color gradient pictures based on the camera sensor data. Those images have geolocation and timestamp saved in their metadata and thus still allow us to reconstruct the moment in which the picture was taken, using the image data as a trigger for our memory. http://memochrome.com "Sound Track Logs" are sound recordings which capture my experience of music on the streets in its entirety. When I listen to music played back through my iPod, its not only the music that I hear, but also the environmental sounds. For this piece I designed a recording technique that allows to capture both in one recording. These recordings are presented on unique vinyl records, with the sound recording on one side, and a laser engraved map of the recording location on the other side. The map also shows the path I walked to make the recording and is drawn as a waveform along the motion path.
