Multi-generation cluster
Author

Description (deu)
Aging society is a global issue. China, at even higher speed of aging, has not prepared. Instead of building nursing homes far from the city, it’s more humanized and necessary to find a new way of living. With 30% old people in the near future, multi-generation living can be an answer. To realize this idea, an old district in city Wenzhou (my hometown) that hasn’t been well developed and still keeps the attraction to old people has a great potential. Existing empty shops and closed cultural space provide the oppotunitiy for redistributing the amenities and communal spaces. Applying srtategies on different materials of the existing structure gives the existing urban fabric a new pattern of usage: wooden house –> communal house; concrete-brick houses - new glass facility house; tiny extenstion house - garden; brick house – private living. One cluster with 20 multi-genration population is grouped with different materials of the houses providing all needs of living and communal life. “Island”, “Necklace”, “Mirror”, “Thread”, these 4 types of the cluster, with different relations to the street, show each of themselves with unique character of spatial quality.
