"I just wanted to make something nice*
* It would be a lie to come up with a skin-deep concept, after a year of dark madness and solitude my main purpose of creating my collection was to make something that is happy and loud. As simple as it is.In the 1910s Hungary shepherds and wranglers on the countryside gathered around the fire after a hard day of work started an even harder night of drinking while stitch by stitch embroidering heavy leather coats by hand. These evenings resulted in unique custom-made pieces that can not be reproduced in a factory. In my collection „Galambom” (my pigeon in Hungarian) I wanted to step away from the fast-paced world of mass-produced clothing and embrace new forms of craftsmanship. The shapes are loosely based on the unconventional Hungarian menswear, the furry coatsof wranglers and shepherds from the early 1910s in Mezőkövesd. The voluminous pieces are like a canvas, but instead of traditional embroidery, i filled it with my symbols. This gave me the opportunity to in some form reclaim Hungarian folk wear, something that nowadays unfortunately is often associated with the far-right.I placed pigeons - our most undervalued city birds - into dreamy sceneries with flowers and twinkling stars. (Why is a dove the symbol of love and a pigeon just a flying rat?)With a rug gun, i tufted soft, colorful sheep-fur-like textures as thick and protective as the shepherd's coat. With this messy and time-consuming technique, i shot yarn line by line into the fabric, turning it into naive textile drawings, and assembled the pieces by hand.My collection is the manifestation of the love I have for the process of making garments and an ode to Rüdiger, the pigeon.
