Entfremdung, Ästhetik und Technik bei Gilbert Simondon und Theodor W. Adorno

Gilbert Simondons Konzept der Ästhetik bleibt trotz des gestiegenen Interesses an seinen Arbeiten in den letzten Jahren untererforscht. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen den Konzepten Ästhetik, Entfremdung und Technik in seiner Philosophie und vergleicht sie mit den Arbeiten Theodor W. Adornos zum Thema. Dabei wird zuerst umrissen, wie Simondon die Entfremdung von Technik kritisiert und diese Position mit der Kritik technologischer Rationalität bei Adorno verglichen. Im Anschluss wird ausführlich das Konzept des Ästhetischen in drei Arbeiten Simondons analysiert: in Die Existenzweise der technischen Objekte, in On Techno-Aesthetics und in Imagination und Invention. Die ästhetische Erfahrung, die Simondon dort beschreibt, ist eng mit der Integration von Technik in die Welt verwoben. Darin scheint ein kollekives, unentfremdetes Verhältnis zur Welt vor. Daraufhin wird untersucht, wie Adorno in seinem Spätwerk Ästhetische Theorie ebenfalls Technik, Kunst und Entfremdung konzeptuell verknüpft. Schließlich wird auf die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen Simondon und Adorno eingegangen, die trotz der theoretischen Unterschiede bestehen.

Gilbert Simondon’s concept of aesthetics has remained under-explored in the literature despite a growing interest in his work in recent years. This thesis examines the connections between the concepts of aesthetics, alienation and technics in his philosophy and compares it to Theodor W. Adorno’s work on the same subjects. Initially I will consider Simondon’s critique of the alienation from technics and compare it to Adorno’s critique of technical rationality. In a next step I will analyze the concept of the aesthetic in three main sources by Simondon: in On the mode of existence of technical objects, in On techno-aesthetics and in Imagination and Invention. The aesthetic impression which Simondon develops theoretically in this work is closely connected to the integration of technics into the world. Afterwards I will examine how Adorno connects the same three concepts in his Aesthetic Theory. Finally I will consider the striking similarities between Simondon and Adorno, which arise despite their differences in theoretical approaches.
