Die Arbeit untersucht Hans Blumenbergs Metaphorologie als Schlüssel zu einer nicht-reduktionistischen Erkenntnistheorie. Ausgangspunkt ist das Paradox, dass Denken dort pro-duktiv wird, wo seine begrifflichen Werkzeuge versagen. In sechs Schritten wird gezeigt, dass Blumenbergs Konzept der absoluten Metapher weder rhetorischer Zierrat noch theoretischer Restbestand ist, sondern eine symbolische Grundfigur, an der sich kulturelle Selbst- und Weltdeutung orientiert. Kapitel 1 entfaltet die anthropologische Grundthese vom „Absolutis-mus der Wirklichkeit“: Der Mensch begegnet einer überfordernden Realität mit Distanz-, Ent-lastungs- und Präventionsstrategien. Kapitel 2 rekonstruiert Blumenbergs Metaphorologie zwischen Kant und Heidegger und klärt die Doppelrolle von „Restbestand“ und „Grundbe-stand“ der Metapher. Kapitel 3 verschränkt den Wahrheits- mit dem Wirklichkeitsbegriff und weist nach, dass Wahrheit in Blumenbergs Sinne als pragmatische Bedeutsamkeit erscheint. Kapitel 4 verbindet Mythos und Metapher: Mythische Narrative erweisen sich als narrative Entfaltungen absoluter Metaphern. Neu eingebracht wird der Begriff der Hyperbolé (Sandra Lehmann) als ontologischer Überschuss, der die Metapher strukturell trägt: Metaphorisches Denken wird als hyperbolische Grenzüberschreitung lesbar, die neue Sinnräume eröffnet, oh-ne sie zu schließen. Kapitel 5 zeigt, wie diese Perspektive ideologiekritische Kurzschlüsse vermeidet, indem sie den Bedeutungs-, nicht den Wahrheitsüberschuss der Metapher fokus-siert. Kapitel 6 skizziert aktuelle „algorithmische“ Weltmetaphern zeitgenössisch metaphori-sche Lesbarkeiten der Welt. Die Studie argumentiert, dass Metaphern das Denkmögliche vor-strukturieren und zugleich pluralisieren: Es gibt keine singuläre Weltsicht, sondern konkurrie-rende Lesbarkeiten. Damit leistet die Arbeit einen doppelten Beitrag: Sie präzisiert Blumen-bergs Stellung im Diskurs zwischen Kritik und Kulturwissenschaft und eröffnet mit dem Hy-perbolé-Konzept ein heuristisches Instrument, um neue absolute Metaphern oder eben symbo-lische Leitbilder zu analysieren.

This study explores Hans Blumenberg’s metaphorology as a key to a non-reductionist episte-mology. It begins from the paradox that thought becomes productive precisely at the point where its conceptual instruments break down. Over six Chapters it demonstrates that Blumen-berg’s notion of the absolute metaphor is neither rhetorical embellishment nor theoretical res-idue, but rather a foundational symbolic figure that guides cultural interpretations of self and world. Chapter 1 elaborates the anthropological thesis of the ‘absolutism of reality’: human beings confront an overwhelming reality with strategies of distancing, alleviation and preven-tion. Chapter 2 situates Blumenberg’s metaphorology between Kant and Heidegger, clarifying the twin role of metaphor as both remainder and basic stock. Chapter 3 intertwines the con-cepts of truth and reality, showing that, for Blumenberg, truth manifests itself as pragmatic significance. Chapter 4 connects myth and metaphor: mythical narratives emerge as narrative unfoldings of absolute metaphors. Introducing Sandra Lehmann’s concept of hyperbolé as an ontological surplus, it presents metaphorical thinking as a hyperbolic transgression that opens new spaces of meaning without sealing them. Chapter 5 explains how this perspective avoids ideological short-circuits by foregrounding the surplus of meaning rather than of truth. Chap-ter 6 sketches contemporary ‘algorithmic’ world metaphors and today’s metaphorical modes of reading the world. The study contends that metaphors both prestructure and pluralise the thinkable: there is no single worldview, but competing readings. It therefore makes a twofold contribution: it clarifies Blumenberg’s position within the dialogue between critique and cul-tural studies, and, through the concept of hyperbolé, provides a heuristic for analysing emer-gent absolute metaphors and symbolic models.
