Description (de)
Description (en)
This thesis attempts to delineate the fundamental transitions during the Neolithic Age by discussing a selection of finds from the Mesolithic and Neolithic period . In the beginning, the crucial factors for these transitions were shifts in the geographic and climatic conditions in the Levant area. These changes were the basis for the resulting sedentism. This paper researches the correlation between sedentism and the predictability of the availability of food and which role ceramics take in this process. Apart from ceramics, other artistic expressions of this age, such as paintings, hand prints, tools and funeral rituals point to a more sophisticated idea of man and support the theory of crucial mental achievements of mankind from around 30.000 years ago. This interpreation of life, death and man’s own localisation in between is illustrated by examples in this thesis through archeological excavations of grave sites from the Neolithic Age.
