Wekcome to transciency

Transciency ist ein Vorgriff auf die Zukunft – auf eine neue noch nicht etablierte Disziplin. Eine Disziplin, die sich mit Perspektiven, Forschungsmethoden und Repräsentationen befasst, die durch und über die Wissenschaft hinweg operieren. Es ist ein entsprechend ausgedehntes und eklektizistisches Terrain – eine Heimat zwischen Prälogischem und Transrationalem. Else Sibil Somone ist eine Transcientistin, die es noch nicht gibt. Eines schönen Tages wird sie ein Laboratorium in der Nähe der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien haben. Ihr wird einmal eine Gedenktafel gewidmet werden. Eine Installation im nahe gelegen Heiligenkreuzerhof lieferte eine Vorstellung von Elses Arbeitsweise und wie ihr Laboratorium einmal aussehen könnte. Dort wurde exemplarisch an, über, durch Mehlwürmern (Larven des Käfers Tenebrio molitor) gearbeitet, von denen es heißt, dass die Styropor (Polystyrol) verwerten können. In der Nachbarschaft der Akademie der Wissenschaft wird sich Else in guter Gesellschaft befinden. Eine Tour über den ehemaligen Universitätsplatz, erlaubt es in die Wissenschaftsgeschichte einzutauchen und lässt ahnen warum.

Transciency is an anticipation of the future – towards a new, not yet established discipline. A discipline which deals with perspectives, research methods and representations operating through and across science. It is a respective vast and eclectic field – a home between the prelogical and the transrational. Else Sibil Somone is a transcientist not yet existing. But once she will have a laboratory somewhere in the proximity of the Academy of Science in Vienna. Some day a memorial plaque will be dedicated to her. An installation at the nearby Heiligenkreuzerhof gave an impression how her laboratory and her working practices could look like. In an exemplary way the laboratory is working on, with, via mealworms (larvae of the beetle Tenebrio molitor). It is said that they can utilise styrofoam (polystyrene) as food source. Else will be in good company in the neighbourhood of the Academy of Science. Dipping a bit in the history of science/transciency, a tour along the former Universitätsplatz might give an idea why.
