Bürgerliches Basteln in der DDR zwischen 1967 bis 1989 am Beispiel der Zeitschrift practic

Diese Diplomarbeit handelt von der BastlerInnenbewegung der DDR, die anhand der Zeitschrift practic in einem Zeitraum von 1967 bis 1989 untersucht wird. Es wird gezeigt, welche Wertvorstellungen in der Zeitschrift practic, die, wie alle Medien in der DDR, unter staatlicher Kontrolle stand, vermittelt wurden und inwiefern diese in den Bauanleitungen der LeserInnen wiederzufinden sind. Dabei wird vorerst die gesellschaftspolitische Bedeutung des Bastelns in der DDR skizziert. Das Basteln wird zum einen als Erziehungsideologie in der DDR betrachtet, zum anderen im Rahmen eines kurzen historischen Abrisses der Planwirtschaft der DDR und ihrer Auswirkungen auf die Konsumkultur als Antwort auf die allgegenwärtige Knappheit untersucht. Im Anschluss wird die politische Rolle der Zeitschriften in der DDR kritisch diskutiert und auf die staatliche Lenkung der Medien in der DDR Bezug genommen. Daran anknüpfend erfolgt die Analyse der Zeitschrift practic in Hinblick auf die Einlösung des bürgerlichen Tugendkatalogs, der bereits auf einen Verhaltenskodex aus dem 18. Jahrhundert zurückgreift. Dabei wird gefragt, inwieweit diese Tugenden vom SED-Regime zum Zweck des Aufbaus des sozialistischen Staates in der Zeitschrift practic propagiert wurden.

This diploma thesis focuses on the do-it-yourself hobbyist movement in the GDR, which is investigated on the basis of the magazine practic in the period from 1967 to 1989. It shows what values were practiced in practic, which, like all media in the GDR, was under state control, and how these values are found in the building instructions for the readers. In this way, the significance of the hobbyists in the GDR is sketched. On the one hand, tinkering is viewed as an educational ideology in the GDR and, on the other hand, it is examined within the context of a brief historical outline of the planned economy of the GDR and its effects on consumer culture, above all as a response to ubiquitous scarcity. Subsequently, the political role of magazines in the GDR is critically discussed and state control of the media in the GDR is examined. Moving on from this, an analysis of practic is carried out with regard to the redemption of bourgeois virtues, which draws on a code of conduct from the eighteenth century. The question that is asked is how far these virtues were propagated by the SED regime in practic for the purpose of constructing the socialist state.
