Is this a playground?

"Darf ich mich vorstellen, ich bin ein Sim. Ich bin dein Sim. Bring mich ins Spiel. Ich tue was du mir sagst. Nutze mich nicht aus. Kümmere dich um mich." Als David an jenem Abend heimkommt schwebt kein grüner Diamant mehr über seinem Kopf. Auf seinem Handy erscheint eine Nachricht von einem Jungen, der vor wenigen Stunden mit ihnen Sims gespielt haben: "Spring in die Luft und schreie!" Wir spielen immer. Unsere Reise des Sim-werdens läuft seit Anfang 2012. Damals ist das ‘Institut für Alltagsforschung’ während einer Untersuchung zu Fakes, Bildern und Simulationen des Alltags auf das Computerspiel ‘Die Sims’ gestoßen. Kurz danach haben wir grüne Kartondiamanten auf unseren Köpfen getragen und uns als physische Sims spielen lassen. Seither haben mehrere Mitglieder des Instituts diese Praxis in diverse Umfelder begleitet (ich schätze, dass bis Jänner 2014 etwa 80 Personen ‘die Sims - away from keyboard’ gespielt haben).

"Let me introduce myself, I am a Sim. I am your Sim. Bring me into play. I will do what you tell me. But don't exploit me. Take care of me." When David comes home that evening, the green diamond does not float above his head anymore. He receives a text message from one of the boys who was playing Sims with them a few hours before: "Jump in the air and scream!" Playing never stops. This is a journey of becoming Sim. It all has started in early 2012 when the ‘Institute for Research of Everyday Life’, during an enquiry into fakes, images and simulations of everyday life, bounced into the computer game ‘The Sims’. Soon after, we were wearing green cardboard diamonds letting ourselves be played as physical Sims. This practice has developed a life of its own: several members of the institute have accompanied the Sims into various contexts and environments (i estimate that about 80 people have played ‘the Sims - away from keyboard’ as of January 2014).
