Description (en)
Description (en)
This diploma thesis presents a contemplation of notions such as displacement, nostalgia, home, desire and exoticism through the deconstruction of a sixteenth century myth. By shedding historicity, the author analyses a myth as a mirror of a particular society’s way of thinking and feeling and as a mode to produce narrative and meaning. The myth, as a representational tool, is juxtaposed with a critical deconstruction of contemporary representational methods. This thesis traverses fields and tries to re-think the interdisciplinary boundaries of anthropology, ethnography, philosophy and history of science; and asks how the work can be positioned within contemporary artistic discourse.
