Description (eng)
On September 17, 1937, the Rotunda in Vienna, the building built for the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873, burned down for reasons that remain unexplained to this day. The Vienna fire department battled the flames for hours in vain. Based on the surviving black-and-white photographs and reports - many of them from domestic and foreign daily newspapers and those of the fire department commanders - this work reconstructs the fire, with a focus on the operations of the Central Fire station.
